The Story of Little Blue Design Co.
My dad has been an entrepreneur for most of my life, and his businesses have always been such a big part of our family, so I can't really imagine life without being part of a small business. I remember lots of summer afternoons spent down at the shop learning how to keep the building clean and running properly. Growing up with small business has really tugged on my heart, so much so that small business owners are exactly who I want to serve with Little Blue Design Co.
Going into college I knew that I eventually wanted to start my own business. I figured I would get my degree from Iowa State University, get a job somewhere doing graphic design work for 5 years or so, and then maybe start the business once we had started our family. As I entered the work force post-graduation, I realized that most businesses don't actually have enough design work to keep a full-time graphic designer working and productive. I would get projects at work, finish them a few days before the deadline, and then sit and twiddle my thumbs until I came up with something else on my own to do. I wanted to be designing and producing things! I was sitting in my college apartment (that we named Little Blue) when I came to the conclusion that there is no better time than the present! Why not start now? And why not name it after the place where so many of my favorite memories took place? That's when Little Blue Design Co was born!
